Solar Heating Tubes Save Energy

July 21, 2010

Welcome back! If you haven't already, click here to see how I set up my own solar power system at home. It really cut my energy costs, and it's pretty easy to do, too. Thanks for visiting!

Environmental issues concern both landlords and tenants alike, and using a solar energy system to heat your building’s water can do much to allay a tenant’s concerns. If you have residential apartments, industrial buildings or commercial property, your prospective clientele has been hearing for many years that it is important to protect the planet and move towards energy independence. Installing green energy sources wherever possible speaks volumes about your ethics to potential renters.

Green credentials aside, there are lots of reasons to install solar panels. You can reduce your gas and electric bills significantly by lowering your dependancy on your gas or electric boiler. You can use these savings to become more profitable, make you more competitive by passing savings along to your tenants, or both.

Of course, using solar power to heat water is not a new idea. Scientists are known to have experimented with the idea of using solar power to heat water since the late 1800s. However, although the technology has come a long way since then, until recently solar power was of limited use for heating in cold or cloudy regions. And yet these are the places where energy bills are at their highest. With the development of vacuum sealed solar heating tubes, however, more and more people are able to switch to a solar energy system.

Solar heating tubes’ cylindrical shape means they can be positioned in such a way that part of their surface is continually facing the sun, allowing them to absorb solar energy throughout the day. Because they are able to glean the sun’s energy more efficiently, they are able to harvest enough solar power to heat your building’s water even during the winter and on cold days. The fact that they are vacuum sealed increases their efficiency further given that vacuums provide the perfect conditions for insulating the heat source. This means less energy is wasted. The inside of the tube will become hot, but the outside of the tube, insulated by the vacuum, remains cool. This results in an increase in the amount of the solar power being stored and used to heat the water in your building.

Your building’s boiler system or hot water heater uses up a huge fraction of the electricity and/or gas used in your building. You can cut your energy bills and those of your tenants significantly by installing solar heating tubes and letting renewable, green energy work for you. You only need buy and install your solar heating tubes once, after that the savings can keep on coming.

This is the perfect time to begin using green energy sources such as solar water heating tubes. Many governments are now offering financial incentives for building owners to install solar heating tubes which makes use of renewable and sustainable energy sources. Certain countries will even provide you with a grant towards the installation of your solar heating tubes or solar panels. Sooner or later, green energy is going to be the order of the day for all building owners. It is much better to act now, while the government will help defray some of the costs.
